Crankcase Front Cover
Removal
1. Rem ove o il pan as outlined.
2. R em ove torsion al dam per as outlined.
3. Rem ove w ater pump
4. R em ove crankcase front
and rem o ve front c o ver and gasket, then discard
gasket.
Installation
1. Make certain that co v e r mounting face and cylin der
block front end face are clean and flat.
20 Coat the o il seal with engine o il and using a new
c o ve r gasket, coated with gasket s e a le r install cover
and gasket o v e r dowel
3. Install co ve r screw s and torque to sp ecification s.
4. Install w ater pump as outlined in Section 6K.
5. Install torsional dam per as outlined.
6. Install o il pan as outlined.
O il Seal (Front Cover)
Replacement
W ith Co ve r Rem o v e d
1. With c o ver rem oved , p ry old seal out o f co ver from
the front with a la rg e screw d riv e r.
2. Install new seal so that open end o f the seal is toward
the inside o f co v e r and d riv e it into position with
T o o l J-23042 on Sm all V8 engines or T o o l J-22102
on M ark IV V8 engines (fig . 11V).

2. Install new seal so that open end o f seal is toward
the inside o f co v e r and d rive it into position with
T o o l J-23042 on Sm all V8 engines o r T o o l J-22102
on "M a r k IV V8" engines (fig. 12V).
Timing Chain a n d /o r Sprockets
Replacement
1. Rem ove torsion al dam per and crankcase front co ver
as outlined.
2. Crank engine until m arks on cam shaft and crankshaft
sprockets a re in alignm ent (fig. 13V).
3. Rem ove cam shaft sprocket to camshaft bolts.
4. R em ove cam shaft sprocket and tim ing chain together.
Sprocket is a light p res s fit on camshaft. If sprocket
