COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND ADJUSTMENT
Engine Assembly
Removal
1. D isconnect b attery cables and drain cooling system .
2. R em ove the a ir cleaner.
3. P e r fo r m the fo llow in g p re lim in a ry operations.
ON CS 10-20-30, KS 10-20 SERIES:
• R em ove the hood as outlined in Section 11.
• R em ove the rad iator and shroud as outlined in
Section 13.
ON CS 40-50-60, MS 50, SS 40-50 SERIES:
• R em ove the fron t end sheet m etal (with hood and
radiator attached) as outlined in Section 11.
ON PS 10-20-30-40 SERIES:
• R em ove the engine box and hood as outlined in
Section 11.

Because
of
the interchangeability and s im ila rity o f
many engine su b -assem b lies and parts,
which truck ve h ic le they are used in, typ ical illu stration s
and procedu res are used (except w here s p e c ific illu s ­
trations
o r
procedu res
operation).
Although illu stra tion s showing bench opera­
tions a re used, m ost sin gle operations, when not part of a
gen eral overhaul, should be p erfo rm ed (if p ra c tic a l) with
the engine in the veh icle.
• R em ove the battery.
• R em ove the rad iator and shroud as outlined in
Section 13.
ON TS 50 and 60 SERIES:
• R em ove the radiator, radiator support and shroud
as outlined in Section 13.
• Disconnect shift linkage at con trol island.
• Disconnect choke cable at carbu retor.
• Disconnect em ergen cy brake cable at em ergen cy
brake and retaining brackets.
• Rem ove bolts retaining con trol island to support
and swing control island forw ard .
• Disconnect hoses at rad iator surge tank.
• Rem ove bolts retaining surge tank to island sup­
port and rem ove surge tank.
• Disconnect throttle cable at carb u retor and r e ­
taining brackets.
