T o avoid damage,
charging rate must be reduced or tem p o ra rily halted if:
1. E le c tro ly te tem peratu re exceeds 125°F.
2. V iolen t gassing or spewing of e le c tro ly te occurs.

conditions can be accom plished by p erfo rm in g a visual
inspection.

1. VISUAL INSPECTION
The fir s t step in testing the B attery should be a visual
inspection, which v e r y often w ill save tim e and expense
in determ ining B attery condition.
• Check the outside o f the B attery fo r a broken or
cracked case o r a broken or cracked co ver.

2. INSTRUMENT TEST
A number o f suppliers have approved testing equipment
a va ila b le. T h ese te s te rs have a program m ed test p ro c e ­
dure consisting o f a s e r ie s of tim ed discharge and charge
events,
requ irin g
approxim ately 2 to 3 minutes, that
w ill determ ine the condition o f the B attery with a high
d eg re e o f accuracy. When using these te s te rs , the p ro ­
cedure recom m ended by the te s te r m anufacturer should
