1. Soak fe lt w ipers in SA E -30 o il fo r one hour and in ­

Installation
1. P la c e shift fo rk seal on d iffe re n tia l c a r r ie r mounting
studs and in stall seal spring.
2. P la c e shift unit on mounting studs, make sure shift
fork actuating le v e r engages slot in shift fork . In­
stall studs nuts and lock w ashers.
60 ft. lbs.
3. F il l unit with lubricant.
4. Connect a ir line to shift unit and check shift unit
system fo r p rop er operation.
Drive Pinion O il Seal (Fig. 8 0 )
Replacement

Rod and Compression Spring
1. Disconnect p ro p e lle r shaft and rem ove pinion flange
and d eflector.
2. Rem ove bolts retaining the o il seal reta in e r to c a r ­
r ie r , and withdraw reta in er from pinion.
3. P ry old seal fro m b ore, using care so as not to dam­
age machined su rface o f retain er.
4. Thoroughly clean a ll fo reig n m atter fro m seal con­
tact area in reta in er.
5. Pack the ca vity between the seal lips with a high-
m elting
point
suitable
in s ta lle r
in s ta lle r d riv e surface.
6. P re s s
sea l into reta in e r until it bottoms against
shoulder.
7. C arefu lly position seal reta in er o v e r pinion to p r e ­
vent damage to sea l, and torque retaining bolts to
specification s.
8. R ein sta ll pinion flange and p ro p e lle r shaft.
NOTE:
This
p r o p e lle r
fasten er is an im portant attaching p art in that it
could a ffect the p erform a n ce o f vita l components
and system s, and/or could result in m ajor r e ­
p a ir expense. It must be replaced with one o f the
same p art number o r with an equivalent p a rt if
replacem ent becom es n ecessary. Do not use a
replacem ent p art o f le s s e r quality o r substitute
design. Torque values must be used as sp ecified
during rea ssem b ly to assure p ro p e r retention o f
this part.
