d. Hold trunnion in one hand and tap p r o p e lle r shaft
yoke ligh tly to seat bearings against lock rings.
3. On re a r p ro p e lle r
shafts, in stall s le e v e yoke over
trunnion hubs and in stall b earin gs in the same man­
ner as above.
Installation
P r o p e lle r shafts may be in stalled by r e v e rs in g the p r o ­
cedure used in re m o va l when the follow in g notes are
ob served .
NOTE 1:
B efore
in stallin g
shaft and sleeve assem bly, slid e seal retain er,
steel washer and cork seal on spline o f mating
shaft. A ssem b le these parts to slee v e by turn­
ing retain er onto s le e v e a fte r re a r p ro p e lle r
shaft is installed.
NOTE 2:
O ver torquing
resu lt in bearin g cap distortion which w ill r e ­
duce r o lle r b earing life .
NOTE 3:
This p r o p e lle r shaft to pinion flange
fa sten er is an im portant attaching part in that it
could a ffect the p erform an ce of v ita l components
and
system s,
and/or
re p a ir expense. It must be replaced with one of
the same p art number o r with an equivalent part

Torque values must be used as specified
during reassem b ly to assure p ro p er retention of
this part.
CONSTANT VELOCITY UNIVERSAL JO IN T
Disassembly
1. R em ove front p r o p e lle r shaft fro m veh icle.
2. R em ove re a r trunnion snap rings fro m center yoke.
Rem ove grea se fitting.
3. P la ce prop shaft in v ic e as shown in F igu re 96.
D rive one re a r trunnion bearing cap fro m center
yoke
as
shown
in
Figu re
approxim ately 3/8".
NOTE:
Keep r e a r portion of p r o p e lle r shaft up
to
avoid
in terferen ce o f re a r yoke half with
center yoke.
4. Once the bearing cup protru des 3/8", re le a s e vice.
Grasp protruding portion o f cup in v ic e and d rive on
center yoke as shown in F igu re 97 until cup is r e ­
moved.

s c re w d riv e r.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 fo r
6. Once the center yoke cups have been rem oved, r e ­
m ove
re a r yoke half bearing cups.

7. Gently pull re a r yoke half fro m prop shaft. Rem ove
a ll loose needle bearings. R em ove spring seal.
8. Rem ove front trunnion fro m cen ter and front yoke in
same manner as d escribed in Steps 2, 3 & 4.
NOTE:
B efo re front trunnion can be rem oved
a ll four (4) bearing caps must be rem oved.
Assembly
1. Clean and inspect a ll needle bearin gs, cups, seals,
fittin gs, trunnions and yokes. A ssem b le a ll needle
bearings
in
caps
(27 p e r cap);
bearings in front yoke (28 total). Retain bearings
with
a heavy grea se.
