F ro m passenger side of fir e w a ll, ca refu lly in sert the
lo w e r end of the m ast jacket through the fire w a ll
opening, guiding the steerin g coupling onto the s te e r
ing g ea r worm shaft.
2.
L o o se ly install m ast jacket clam p at dash panel.
3.
Adjust the position of the m ast jacket and tighten
clam ps,
maintaining
dim ension of .250 to .375 inches, if so equipped.
NOTE:
The steerin g coupling to steerin g gear
fasten er is an im portant attaching part in that it
could affect the p erform a n ce of vita l components
and system s, and/or could resu lt in m a jor r e
p a ir expense.
It must be rep la ced with one of
the sam e part number o r with an equivalent part
if replacem en t becom es n ecessa ry.

Torque values must be used as specified
during reassem b ly to assure p ro p er retention of
this part.
4. In stall seal at fir e w a ll.
5. Adjust the lo w er m ast jacket b earing as outlined un
d er Maintenance and Adjustm ents.
6. Connect d irection al signal w irin g harness.
7. Install steerin g wheel as outlined under "S teerin g
W h eel—Installation."

8. Connect battery ground cable.
STEERING C OLUM N-TILT CAB MODELS (Fig. 19)
Removal
1. Bend tabs of dust cap away fro m yoke tube, on in ter
m ediate steerin g shaft yoke tube.
2. Slide dust cap, plastic washer and fe lt washer down
on yoke shaft.
3. Disconnect w irin g harness fro m m ast jacket - rem ove
each lead fro m the connector and m ark its location in
the connector.
4. Rem ove m ast jacket support clamps.
5. R em ove mast jacket assem bly fro m veh icle.
6. If n ecessary, rem o ve steerin g wheel as outlined un
d er ' 'STEERING W H E E L - R e m o v a l."
NOTE:

outlined previo u sly fo r 40-50-60 serie s .
Installation
1. With mast jacket com pletely assem bled and in te r
m ediate steerin g shaft yoke tube assem bled to upper
steerin g shaft, place assem bly in veh icle and a ssem
b le interm ediate shaft yoke tube to yoke shaft, align
ing the arrow s.
2. Hold mast jacket in position at dash paneland assem
ble support clam ps.
3. Push fe lt washer, p lastic washer and dust cap into
position
and
secure by bending tabs o f dust cap
against yoke tube.
4. Connect w irin g harness to mast jacket.
