FRONT SUSPENSION 3-2
join ts. A c o il spring is located between the lo w e r control
arm and a fo rm ed seat in the suspension crossm em b er,
thus the lo w e r con trol arm is the load ca rry in g m em ber.
The double acting shock ab sorbers are also attached to
the lo w er con trol arm s and connect with the fram e to the
re a r on the upper end.
The forw ard control P - 10-20-30
s e r ie s is equipped with a s ta b iliz e r bar connected to the
lo w e r control arm and tra n s v e rs e ly mounted to the fram e
side m em bers.
The fron t wheel bearings are tapered
r o lle r type on the above m odels.
The I-B ea m axles used on a ll 40-60 S eries a re of the
conventional re v e r s e E llio tt type, with solid kingpins and
gla ss
fille d
polycarbonate
knuckles.
The springs are C h evrolet V a ri-R a te , bushed
at the fron t eye only and mounted to a rig id hanger. The
re a r end o f the spring rid es in a special hanger designed
to p ro vid e a re la tiv e ly low spring rate at curb loads with
in creased rate at higher loads.

The front spring assem bly in corp orates the b erlin -typ e
sprin g eyes.
The front eye is single-w rapped and has a
rubber insulated steel bushing through which the spring
is bolted to the spring front hanger.

2. Tighten adjusting nut to 15 lb. ft. while rotating hub
in both d irection s.
