BRAKE SHOES A N D LININGS
Brake Shoe
Removal (Fig. 89 )
1. Jack up re a r of veh icle and rem ove wheels.
2. Rem ove hub and brake drum assem bly.
" R EAR SU SPE N SIO N " under " HUBS AND B E A R ­
IN G S " (SEC. 4) of this manual.
3. R em ove brake shoe return springs fro m both shoes.
4. L ift brake shoe web out of shoe hold-down clip and
out of notches in anchor and adjusting plungers.

insure c o r r e c t rea ssem b ly.

Shoe Relining
Each brake shoe consists of a shoe table with a single
web

in
place.

Both linings on each shoe a re identical
and can be in stalled at eith er end. New linings must be
se cu re ly riv e te d to shoe with c o rre c t s iz e riv e ts , and

must be p ro p e rly upset.

Installation (Fig. 89 )
1. P osition brake shoe webs inside hold-down clip s with
ends engaging slotted end of anchor plungers and
slotted end of adjusting bolt.
NOTE:
B rake
shoes
4 -inch radius on the adjusting end and a 3 -inch
radius on the anchor end. When in stallin g shoes
on brake assem bly, make certain the end m arked
as suggested in " N O T E " of step 4 of " R e m o v a l"
is mounted in adjusting plunger.
2. Install
brake
shoe
hold-down clip applies p ressu re to shoe web to avoid
cocked shoes.
BRAKE ACTUATION COM PONENTS
Actuation components can be s e rv ic e d without rem ovin g
spid er fro m axle. Trou ble diagnosis might indicate faulty
internal part o r p arts which would not necessitate brake

disassem bly
o r new brake lining.
