steerin g gear used on a ll truck m odels is of the
re c irc u la tin g ball type and the s e r v ic e procedu res are
b a s ic a lly the sam e fo r all units.
T w o types of steerin g linkages are used.
s e r ie s units have an adjustable tie rod connected to the
s te e rin g arm
at each wheel.
The steerin g g e a r is fa c to r y - fille d with steering g ea r
lubricant.
Seasonal change of this lubricant should not
be p erfo rm e d and the housing should not be drained - no
lu brication is requ ired fo r the life of the steerin g g e a Z
E v e ry 3H.UOO m iles, the g e a r should be inspected fo r
s e a l leakage (actual solid g re a s e - not just o ily film ).
a s e a l is rep laced o r the g e a r is overhauled, the g ea r
housing should be r e fille d with #1051052 (13 o z. container)
S teerin g G ear
Lubricant which m eets GM Specification
G M 4673M, o r its equivalent.
NOTE:
Do not use E P C hassis
m eets GM Specification GM 6031M, to lubricate
the gear.
DO N O T O V E R - F IL L the gear hous-
