6. Install outer locknut and tighten to c o r r e c t specified
torque. Then bend long tang o f nut lock o v e r into slot
o f outer nut. T h is method o f adjustment w ill resu lt
in the prop er bearin g loading, and wheel should turn
fre e ly .
Drive Pinion O il Seal (Fig. 59)
Replacement

1. M ark relationship between p ro p e lle r shaft and com ­
panion flange.
2. Disconnect p r o p e lle r shaft and rem ove pinion flange
and d eflecto r.

3. R em ove bolts retaining the o il seal reta in er to c a r ­
r ie r , and withdraw reta in er from pinion.
4. P r y old seal from b ore, using care so as not to dam­
age machined surface o f retain er.

Thoroughly clean a ll foreign m atter from seal con­
tact area in retain er.
6. Pack the cavity between the seal lip s with a high-
m elting
point bearin g

in sta ller T o o l
in sta ller d rive surface.

P r e s s
seal into reta in er until it bottom s against
shoulder.
8. C arefu lly position seal retainer o v e r pinion to p r e ­
vent damage to seal, and torque retaining bolts to
specification s.
9. R einstall pinion flange and p ro p e lle r shaft as marked
in step #1.
NOTE:
T h is
p ro p e lle r
fastener is an im portant attaching part in that it
could a ffect the perform an ce o f v ita l components
and system s, and/or could result in m a jor rep a ir
expense.
It must be replaced with one o f the
same part number o r with an equivalent part i f
replacem ent becom es n ecessary. Do not use a
replacem ent part o f le s s e r quality or substitute
design. Torque values must be used as specified
during reassem bly to assure proper retention o f
this part.
