A ll cab m odel trucks (except T ilt Cabs) have a 21 ga l
lon (17.5 gallons Im p eria l M easure) capacity (approx.)
fuel tank mounted behind the seat within the cab. The
tank is constructed of two ste e l sections, seam welded,
together.
The f ille r neck extends through the left side of
the cab, at a convenient height from the ground. Excep
tional
stiffn ess is secured by the combination of the
welded flanges and depressed ribs in both the fron t and
re a r halves.
The tank is bolted to the re a r of the cab
and to the flo o r panel.
Fram e mounted tanks are located on the right side of
the chassis and lay lengthwise outside the fram e side r a il
on Forw ard Control, 1-1/2, and 2 ton models.
On 1 ton m odels, the above inform ation also applies
except that the tank is mounted on the outside of the le ft
fra m e side ra il.
A strong mounting of two m etal straps
anchor these tanks to mounting brackets which are bolted
to the fra m e side m em ber.
On 1/2 and 3/4 ton conventional and 4-w heel d rive
m odels the tank is located to the re a r of the axle and be
tween the side ra ils and envelopes the forw a rd edge of the
spare tire . These tanks are supported by one or two steel
straps which are held at eith er end by a hook into the side
ra il.
M etal to m etal contact between tank and brackets
o r straps is prevented by the use of anti-squeak m aterial.

L o w er f i l l e r necks are fir s t bolted or r iv

at this point.
A ll tanks are equipped with a vented f ille r neck cap.
A ll 40 through 60 S eries trucks incorporate a pressu re

The fuel pickup pipe is built in tegrally with the tank
gauge unit, located at the top of the tank. A la rge area,
fin e-m esh screen is located on the bottom of the fuel
pickup pipe.
This screen is designed to prevent the en
trance of d irt or w ater into the fuel system , and operates
with a self-clean in g action.

fle plates are incorporated to provide additional stiffness
and to prevent the surging of gasoline within the tank.
