A u x i l i a r y Spring
1. The au x iliary spring is secu red to the fram e mounted
retaining bracket by one retaining bolt. B efo re at­
tempting to rem ove spring, make sure there is no
load on spring and that spring le a f does not contact
the control arm mounted bum per (fig. 8).

2. Rem ove
cotter pin from spring retaining bolt then
rem ove
nut

bracket.
3. If a u xiliary spring contact bumper is to be rem oved,
support veh icle at r e a r axle, rem ove
rem ove bumper fro m its position on the control arm .
Installation
Coil Spring
1. P la ce spring clamp inside spring. Position clam p so
that the end o f the spring co il is within the area o f
the notch as shown in F igu re 6 so that it seats fr e e ly
on spring end without any hang-up and locate o ver
bolt hole in control arm .
2. P a ss clamp bolt with washer up through hole in con­
tro l arm and lo o se ly install nut.
3. P osition upper clamp inside spring and install bolt
and w asher. Torque nut to sp ecifications.
4. Connect shock absorber to control arm b ra c k e t--
torque nut to specifications.
5. Torqu e
spring lo w er clamp bolt to sp ecification s.
Rem ove jack.
6. L o w er veh icle and rem ove from hoist.

bolts, a re im portant attaching parts in that they

They must be replaced with
parts o f the same part numbers o r with equiva­
lent parts i f replacem ent becom es n ecessary.
Do not use replacem ent parts o f le s s e r quality
o r
substitute design.

1. P osition a u xiliary spring bumper between the control
arm and the axle housing.

bracket control arm and shock absorb er bracket;
install and a ltern ately torque
to specification s.
2. P osition a u xiliary spring assem bly in fram e mounted
bracket so that fre e end o f spring is positioned above
bumper and align sp rin g-to-b ra ck et bolt holes. In­
stall bolt with washer through top side o f bracket
then install nut and washer to through bolt. Torque
nut to 370 ft. lbs. and install co tter pin.
LEAF SPRINGS
NOTE:
A ll spring attachments, including center
bolts, a re im portant attaching parts in that they
could a ffect the perform an ce o f vita l components
and system s, and/or could resu lt in m ajor r e ­
pa ir expense. They must be replaced with parts
o f the same part numbers o r with equivalent
parts i f replacem ent becom es n ecessa ry. Do not
use replacem ent parts o f le s s e r quality o r sub­
stitute design. Torqu e values must be used as
specified during reassem bly to assure prop er
retention o f these parts.
