Support Plate Installation
1. P osition support plate on p ilot o f transm ission re a r
bearin g cap o r re ta in e r and align bolt holes. Insert
fou r bolts and tighten secu rely. (190 ft. lb .).
2. In stall cam shaft in cam shaft bracket. A lign control
le v e r m ark with m ark on cam shaft and in stall control
le v e r . Tighten clam p nut.
3. In stall brake shoe and lining assem blies.
4. Install p ro p e lle r shaft flange at mainshaft as directed
in "T R A N S M IS S IO N " (Sec. 7).
5. R eplace
re la y
le v e r ,
Tighten nut ligh tly, then back up to fir s t hole and in­
stall new cotter pin. Nut should not be tight enough
to re s tr ic t m ovem ent o f re la y le v e r.
pin through holes in con trol le v e r and link and secure
with new cotter pin.

HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINES A N D TUBING
H ydraulic Brake Hose
These hoses requ ire no s e rv ic e
inspection fo r damage fro m road hazards o r other like
sou rces. Should damage occur and replacem ent becom e
n ecessa ry, the follow ing procedu re is to be follow ed.
Removal
1. Separate hose fro m steel line by turning double fla re
connector out o f hose fitting.
2. Rem ove

shaped retained spring fro m hose f it ­
ting and withdraw hose fro m support bracket.
3. Turn

out o f w heel cylin d er inlet o r
junction block.
Installation (Fig. 70)
1. If hose is to be installed in wheel cylin der,
a. Install new copper gasket on cylin d er end o f hose
(m ale end).
b. M oisten threads with brake fluid and install hose
in wheel cylin d er inlet.
2. F o r junction block installations.
a. M oisten threads on m ale end with brake fluid.
b. Turn male end into junction block and tighten
secu rely.
3. With weight o f veh icle on wheels and suspension in
norm al position (fron t w heels straight ahead) pass
fem ale end o f hose through support bracket, allow ing
hose to seek its own position.

NOTE:
Do not tw ist hose unduly during this
operation as its natural curvature is absolutely
n e c e s s a r y
to

suspension clearan ce through fu ll m ovem ent of
the suspension and steerin g parts.

4. Install
shaped retain er spring to secu re hose in
support bracket.
5. Inspect by rem oving weight com pletely fro m wheel.
If working at fron t w heels, turn steerin g geom etry
fro m lock to lock while observin g hose position. Be
sure that hose does not touch other parts at any tim e
during
suspension o r geom etry tra vel.
