8. Rotate the d irection a l signal switch housing counter­
clock w ise and rem ove the housing fro m the column.
NOTE:
The housing and switch cannot be fu lly
rem o ved fro m
the column until the shift le v e r
housing is rem oved.
9. R em ove the p la stic thrust washer assem bly and then
re m o v e the shift le v e r housing (or extension housing)
fro m the column.
10. Separate the d irection a l signal switch, switch control
support
assem bly,

11. P r e s s the steerin g shaft upper bearing out of the
switch contact support.

R em ove the shift le v e r housing (or extension housing)
seat and bushing fro m the upper end of the column.
13.
R em ove the bolt and screw s fro m the adjusting ring
clamp
and rem ove the clam p, adjusting ring and
lo w e r b earin g.
P r e s s the lo w e r bearin g out of the

NOTE:

3, 4, 5 and 13.
1. In stall the dash panel seal, toe panel and fir e w a ll
clam ps o v e r the end of the jacket.
2.
Lu b ricate a ll b earing su rfaces on the shift tube.
3. P la c e the fe lt seal onto the shift tube (next to spring)
and then place the shift tube in the jacket.
4. 3-Speed Columns - T e m p o ra rily in stall spacer, ls t -
r e v e r s e shift le v e r and lo w e r adjusting ring.

and ls t - r e v e r s e

6. In stall lo w e r bearing in the adjusting ring and then
in stall the adjusting ring, clamp and screw s.

7. In stall the shift le v e r housing (or extension housing)
seat and bushing to upper end of housing.
8. Thread
direction al

the switch and shift le v e r
housings, lubricate the inner diam eter o f the shift
housing, and then place the shift le v e r (or extension)
housing onto the upper end of the column.
9. In stall the switch housing pla stic washer assem bly.
P r e s s the upper bearing into the switch contact sup­
port.
10. In stall the d irection a l signal switch housing, contact
support, bearing and switch and torque the switch
screw s to 25 in. lbs.
11. In stall the column w irin g harness co v er and back-up
lam p switch.
12. In sta ll the direction a l signal and gea rsh ift le v e r s .
13. Adjust the shift tube as outlined under "S h ifter Tube
A dju stm ent."
14. P M odels - L oo sely in stall the lo w er bearing preload
spring and clamp.
C and K M odels - L o o se ly in stall the lo w er bearing
preload spring and washer.

2. R em ove the upper bearin g snap ring and p ry out
bearing.
3. Slide the steerin g shaft out of the m ast jacket from
the lo w er end, along with the low er bearin g clamp,
seal, spring, bearing seat and fe lt washer.
4. R em ove the lo w e r b earin g fro m the m ast jacket.
5. Rem ove the turn signal switch le v e r.
th ree turn signal switch screw s and rem ove the turn
signal switch and support.
6. Rotate the turn signal housing cou n ter-clockw ise and
rem ove housing fro m the m ast jacket.
Assem bly— 4 0 -5 0 -6 0 Series
1. Install the turn signal switch housing onto the upper
end of the m ast jacket.
2. In stall the turn signal switch support, switch and
le v e r.
3. P o sitio n the clam p, seal spring, bearing seat, fe lt
washer and bearing on the low er end of the shaft.
NOTE:
Lu bricate the seal with silicon e grease.
4. C a refu lly
in se rt the steerin g shaft into the m ast
jacket fro m the lo w e r end, install the upper bearin g
and retaining ring.
5.
Adjust the lo w e r bearin g clamp to allow .005 to .030
axial m ovem ent of the shaft and tighten the lo w er
clamp bolt to 120 in. lbs.
6. Install the turn signal cancelling cam, spring, shaft
washer and nut.
Installation
