7. Install new gasket on in let fittin g nut then in stall nut
in carb u retor and tighten secu rely.
8. Install fuel line and tighten connector.
Automatic Choke Coil Assemblies

Choke Coil Replacement
In-Line Engines (Fig. 10c)
1. R em ove a ir clea n er and disconnect choke rod upper
clip.
2. Rem ove bolts attaching choke c o il to m anifold, and
rem ove choke c o il and choke rod as an assem bly.
3. Disconnect choke rod fro m choke coil.
4. Connect choke rod to new choke c o il and in stall a s ­
sem bly on manifold.
5. In stall bolts and tighten secu rely.
6. Adjust and connect choke rod as outlined.
7. Start and warm -up the engine then check operation
o f choke and in stall a ir clean er.
V 8 Engines (Fig. 1 lc)
1. R em ove a ir clean er and disconnect choke rod upper
clip.
2. R em ove choke c o il as fo llow s:

• Rem ove the choke c o il shield by prying with a
sc re w d r iv e r in the cut out p rovided and then r e ­
m ove the choke rod.
• R em ove bracket and choke c o il assem bly.

• R em ove the choke co il shield by p rying with a
s c re w d r iv e r in the cut out p rovided then lift
shield c a re fu lly o v e r rod.
• Rem ove choke rod, bracket screw and choke coil
assem bly.
3. In stall a new choke c o il assem bly being sure the lo ­
cating tab is in the forw ard hole o f the intake m ani­
fold and in sta ll mounting screw .
4. Com plete installation as fo llo w s:

• Check that the choke rod eye o f the co il is below
the stop tab on the bracket and in stall the choke
rod and adjust i f n ecessary.
• In stall the choke c o il shield o v e r the choke co il
amd m ove shield to best fit along manifold.

• Install the choke rod and adjust as n ecessary
(without choke c o il shield in stalled ).
• Disconnect choke rod upper end and lo w er choke
c o il shield o v e r choke rod and in stall o v e r choke
coil.
• M ove shield to best fit along m anifold and con­
nect upper end of choke rod.

5. Be sure choke va lve m oves fr e e ly fro m full open to
fu ll closed position.
6. Start and warm up the engine and check operation o f
the choke.
7. Install the a ir clean er.
Idle Solenoid
Removal
1. Rem ove engine a ir clean er.
2. Disconnect e le c tr ic a l connector at solenoid.
3. Loosen solenoid bracket
