J-21058-2 and new bushing on J-21058-15— p ilot
new bushing on guide pin o f J-21058-2.
NOTE:
Use J-21058-2 to install bushing in 3
inch spring; use J-21058-4 to install bushing in
2-1/2 inch spring.

Lubricate spring eye and bushing, in sert tool with
bushing into spring eye, then install J-21058-6,
-7, thrust b earing, w asher and J-21058-8 in that
ord e r as shown in F igu re 13.

Hold J-21058-15 from turning and turn J-21058-8
until bushing is flush with spring eye. R em ove
tool and check bushing fo r prop er seating.
5. L o w e r fram e until stop spring le a f touches cam su r­
face o f hanger.
6. C om press radius le a f with
eye bushing lin es up with holes in spring hanger. In­
stall retaining bolt, w asher and nut--torque nut to
160 ft. lbs.
7. Rem ove

clam p and fram e lift.
Spring Replacement (Series C K 10 -2 0, C P 2 0 -3 0 )
Removal
1. R aise veh icle on hoist so that tension in spring is
relie v e d .
2. Loosen, but do not rem ove, sp rin g-to-sh a ck le reta in ­
ing nut.

3. Rem ove
nut and b olt securing shackle to spring
hanger.
4. R em ove nut and bolt securing spring to front hanger.
5. R em ove " U " bolt retaining nuts, withdraw " U " bolts
and
spring
plate
attachment.
6. Withdraw spring fro m veh icle.
7. Inspect s p rin g --re p la c e bushings, re p a ir o r replace
spring unit as outlined in this section.
Installation
1. Position spring assem bly on axle housing. Make sure
spring is in position at both spring hangers.
NOTE:
The shackle assem bly must be attached
to the re a r spring eye b e fo re installin g shackle
to rea r hanger (fig . 9).
2. Install spring reta in er plate and
install retaining nuts, but do not torque at this tim e.
3. Jack fram e as requ ired to align spring and shackle
with spring hangers.
4. Install
shackle
bolt and nut and again reposition
spring, i f n ecessary to align fron t e y e --in s ta ll front
eye bolt and nut.
5. L o w e r veh icle so that weight o f ve h icle is on suspen­
sion
components
and torque
parts to sp ecification s.
6. L o w er veh icle and rem ove fro m hoist.
Spring Replacement (Series 4 0 , 5 0 and 6 0 )
Removal
(Refer to Figures 14 and 15)
CAUTIO N:
Do not jack under radius lea f. If it
is deem ed n ecessary to jack under s tre s s plate,
make sure surface o f jack is smooth so as to
a void nicking s tre s s plate.
