8. In sta ll the side c o v e r bolts and rem ove the tape
fro m the pitman shaft splines.
9. P e r fo r m
steerin g g e a r adjustment and then install
the pitman arm .
Torque the nut o r clam ping bolt to
sp ecification s.
NOTE:
If a clamp type pitm an arm is used,
spread the pitman arm just enough, with a wedge,
to slip the arm onto the pitman shaft.

NOTE:
The pitman arm to pitman shaft fa s ­
ten er is
an im portant attaching part in that it
could a ffect the p erform an ce of vita l components
and system s, and/or could resu lt in m a jor r e ­
p a ir expense.
It must be rep laced with one of
the
sam e part number o r with an equivalent
part if replacem ent b ecom es n ecessary.
use a replacem ent p art of le s s e r quality o r sub­
stitute design.
Torqu e values must be used as
sp ecified during rea ssem b ly to assure p rop er
retention of this part.

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
