Tighten the se c to r lash adjusting sc re w until torque

steerin g

nut fa lls
NOTE:
If maximum sp ecifica tion is exceeded,
turn lash adjuster s c re w cou n ter-clock w ise, then
com e up on adjustment by turning adjuster in a
clock w ise direction .
7. Tighten locknut and recheck pull as it must lie within
s p ecification s.
8. R eassem b le steerin g connecting rod to pitman arm .
NOTE:
The
connecting
fasten er is an im portant attaching part in that it
could a ffect the p erform a n ce of v ita l components
and system s, and/or could resu lt in m a jor r e ­
p a ir expense.
It must be rep laced with one of
the sam e part number o r with an equivalent part
i f rep lacem en t becom es n ecessary.

fie d during rea ssem b ly to assure p ro p er reten ­
tion of this part.
9. Connect b a ttery ground w ire and re in s ta ll horn button
cap.
BLEEDING HYDRAULIC SYSTEM
1.
F ill o il r e s e r v o ir to p ro p er le v e l and le t o il rem ain
undisturbed fo r at le a s t two minutes.
2. Start engine and run only fo r
3. Add o il if necessary.
4. Repeat above procedu re until o il le v e l rem ains con­
stant a fte r running engine.
5. R a ise front end of v e h icle so that wheels are o ff the
ground.
6. In crea se
engine speed to approxim ately 1500 rpm.
7. Turn the wheels (o ff ground) righ t and le ft, ligh tly
contacting the wheel stops.
8. Add o il if n ecessary.
9.
L o w e r the veh icle and turn wheels right and le ft on
the ground.
10. Check o il le v e l and r e f ill as required.
11. If o il is e x tre m e ly foam y, a llow veh icle to stand a
within sp ecification s.

FLUID LEVEL
1. Check o il le v e l in the r e s e r v o ir by checking the dip

should be m aintained approxim ately 1/2 to 1 inch
fro m top with w heels in fu ll le ft turn position, unless
a side mounted pow er cylin d er is used.

PUMP BELT TENSION
1.
Loosen nut on pivot bolt and pump b ra ce adjusting
nut.
CAUTIO N:
Do not m ove pump by p ryin g against
r e s e r v o ir o r by pulling on f i l l e r neck.
2. M ove pump, with belt in p lace until b elt is tensioned
to sp ecification s as indicated by T o o l J-7316 (fig. 27).
3. Tighten pump brace adjusting nut.
