a second bushing and new cork washer on
cen ter c ro s s and retain with snap ring.
4. W ith cro s s installed in lo w e r yoke, install coupling
in veh icle by assem bling lo w e r yoke to upper yoke as
outlined in Steps 2 and 3.
5.
A ssem b le coupling to steerin g gear worm shaft align­
ing m ark on w orm shaft with m ark on steerin g shaft.
6. In stall clam p bolt nut and washer and tighten.
NOTE:
The steerin g shaft coupling fasten er is
an im portant attaching part in that it could a f­
fe c t the p erform a n ce of vita l components and
system s, and/or could resu lt in m ajor rep a ir
expense.
It must be replaced with one of the
sam e part number o r with an equivalent part if
rep lacem en t becom es n ecessary.

Torqu e values must be used as specified
during rea ssem b ly to assure p ro p er retention of
this part.

Disassem bly
1. W ith shaft on bench straighten tangs on dust cap and
slid e yoke shaft out of yoke tube.
2. R em ove fe lt w asher, dust cap and plastic washer.
D isca rd fe lt washer.
3. On T ilt Cab m odels, rem ove toe panel seal and seal
plate fro m shaft.
Assem bly
1. On tilt cab m odels, in stall toe panel seal and seal
plate on yoke shaft.
2. P o s itio n dust cap, p la stic w asher, and new fe lt washer
on yoke shaft.
3. Align in g the a rro w on the yoke shaft with the a rrow
on the yoke tube, in s e rt yoke shaft into yoke tube.
4. Push p lastic w asher, fe lt washer and dust cap into
position, on end of yoke tube, and bend tangs of dust
cap down against yoke tube.

bolts.

R em ove upper shaft to interm ediate coupling bolt and
rem o ve lo w e r shaft and coupling assem bly.

M ark c o v e r to shaft relationship.

5. Clean g re a s e off pin and end of shaft.

NOTE:

Rem ove seal clamp and slide seal off end of shaft.
Assembly
1. Be sure a ll parts are fr e e of dirt.

2. P r e s s pin back into shaft from cham fered side.

NOTE:
Pin must be centered within .012 in. o r
binding in the coupling w ill result.
3. Check centering of pin (fig. 13).
a. P la ce just enough 3/8" fla t washers on pin to p re ­
vent bearing block from bottom ing when installed.
