Installation
1. Position rod ends in mounting brackets at fram e and
axle, lining up holes with drift.
2. Insert pivot bolts and install nuts fin ger tight.
3. L et weight o f unloaded veh icle rest on suspension
and torque p ivot nuts to specification s.
Stabilizer Shaft (Series P30) (Fig. 2)
Removal
NOTE:
If veh icle
is to be raised during r e ­
m oval procedure, support axle assem bly so that
weight is not sustained by
" U"
bolts.
1. Rem ove the forw ard " U " bolt retaining nuts, and r e ­
m ove shaft anchors from ends o f shaft.
2. Rem ove the fram e-m ounted shaft retaining brackets
and withdraw shaft from
Inspection
1. Position shaft on flat surface and check to see that
shaft is p a ra lle l from side to side.
2. Inspect bushings fo r excessive w ear and other dam­
age- R eplace parts as required.
Installation
1. P osition sh a ft-to -fra m e bushings on shaft and p o s i­
tion shaft to fram e.

2. Install bushings in shaft anchors, position shaft in
anchors and lo osely install anchors to " U " bolts.
3. R e lie v e tension on re a r " U " bolts. Then altern ately
and
evenly
tighten
nuts
sure
that
axle
is p ro p erly positioned during nut
tightening.

bracket retaining nuts to specification s.
Control Arm (Series C -P10 and C 20)
Removal
1. R aise veh icle on hoist.
2. Support axle so that load is rem oved from springs.

3. R em ove spring clamp bolt from underside of control
arm .

bolt nuts and separate shock absorber
bracket
from
control arm .

5. Disconnect parking brake le v e r at clip on bracket at­
tachment on control arm .
6. R em ove pivot bolt and rem ove arm fro m veh icle.
Bushing Replacement
1. Insert T o o l J - 8448-3 in fork o f control arm astride
bushing (fig. 4).
2. R est bushed end o f arm on T o o l J - 5888-3 with bush­
ing flange centered in tool.
3. P la ce T o o l J - 8448-2 on top o f bushing, indexing pin
o f tool in center hole o f bushing and, using T o o l
J-7079-2 p ress bushing from arm .
4. Support control arm just as in rem ovin g bushing,
center new bushing flanged side up o v e r control arm
hole.
5. P la c e
T o o l J-8448-1 on top of bushing and, after
carefu lly seating bushing in tool, p re s s bushing into
arm until flange contacts arm w all.
Installation
NOTE:
A ll control arm attachments a re im p or­
tant attaching parts in that they could affect the
p erform an ce of vital components and system s,
and/or could resu lt in m ajor re p a ir expense.
They must be replaced with parts o f the same
part numbers or with equivalent parts i f r e ­
placem ent becom es n ecessary. Do not use r e ­
placem ent parts o f le s s e r quality o r substitute
design. Torque values must be used as sp ecified
the underside o f veh icle.
