TAILGATES (ENDGATES)
Fleetside
The linkage fo r the flee ts id e endgate is designed fo r
one hand balanced operation.
Replacement (Fig. 2 3 )
1. Open tailgate.
2. R em ove s crew s attaching handle assem bly to inner
side of tailgate.
3. R em ove clip s from
handle.
4. R em ove 2 screw s fro m each latch assem bly and lift
off, with actuating rods.
Replacem ent of Trunnion Assembly
1. L o w e r tailgate half way.

Replacement
1. Unhook endgate chain assem bly at each side.
2. R em ove bolt and lock w asher fro m
in c a r r ie r box endgate shown in F igu re 23.
3. Rem ove endgate.

LIFTGATE ASSEMBLY (Fig. 2 4 )
Removal and Installation (Fig. 2 5 )
1. R em ove one (1) of the two screw s secu rin g the lift -
gate strut supports on each side of the liftga te.
2. R em ove two (2) of the three hinge bolts fro m each
hinge on the body side.
3. W hile supporting the liftgate assem bly in the up
position, rem ove the rem aining one (1) s crew each
secu ring the strut supports to the liftgate.
4. L o w er the liftga te to the closed position.
5. R em ove the rem aining one hinge bolt (each side)
fro m the body.
6. W hile standing on the endgate, ca refu lly rem ove the
liftg a te by slo w ly guiding straight out and away fro m
the body. (See F igu re 25)
7. R ev e rs e above procedu re to install.
Hinge Assembly
If n ecessary to rem ove hinges, apply the above liftgate
steps and pro ceed as fo llo w s:
1. Rem ove two sc rew s securing each hinge bolt access
door on the liftgate.
2. R em ove three (3) hinge bolts fro m
liftgate.
3. Rem ove hinges and rubber grom m ets.
