1. Ventilation va lve may be checked as outlined under
" Additional Checks and Adjustm ent" .
2. Inspect fo r d eteriora ted o r plugged hoses.
3. Inspect a ll hose connections.
4. R em ove flam e a r r e s to r and wash in solvent, then
d ry with com p ressed a ir.
5. Inspect ventilation filt e r
n ecessary.
Service Air Injection Reactor System
Inspect a ir injection re a c to r (A .I.R .) system fo r e v i­
dence o f leaks, deteriorated hoses, cracked a ir m anifolds
o r tubes and loose hose clam ps. Inspect a ir injection
pump b elt condition and tension.
re p a irs as outlined in " Section 6 T " .
Because o f the relationship between " Engine Tune Up"
and " Unburned Exhaust G ases" , the condition o f Engine
Tune Up should be checked w henever the A .I.R . System
seem s to be malfunctioning. P a rtic u la r care should be
taken in checking item s that a ffe c t fu e l-a ir ra tio such as
the crankcase ventilation system , the ca rbu retor and the
carb u retor a ir clean er.

Instrument Hook-Up
Connect vacuum gauge, dw ell m eter, tachom eter and
tim ing light as recom m ended by the m anufacturer o f the
equipment being used.

Choke Adjustment with Remote Choke (Fig. 13)
1. Rem ove a ir clean er and check to see that choke
va lve and rod m ove fr e e ly .
2. Disconnect choke rod at choke le v e r.
3. Check choke adjustment as follow s:

Hold choke va lve closed and position rod so that it
contacts stop.

4. If n ecessa ry, adjust rod length by bending rod at o ff­
set. (Bend must be such that rod enters choke le v e r
hole fr e e ly and squarely.
5. Connect rod at choke le v e r and install a ir clean er.
Choke Adjustment with Manual Choke
1. Rem ove a ir clean er.
2. Push hand choke knob in to within 1/8" o f instrument
panel.
3. Loosen choke cable at ca rbu retor bracket and adjust
cable through the clip until the choke vla ve is wide
open.
4. Tighten cable clam p at ca rbu retor bracket and check
operation o f choke va lve to ensure full closed and
wide open position s.
Check and Adjust Dwell
1. Start engine then check ignition dw ell.
2. If dw ell is not within specification s, adjust dw ell as
follow s:
