5. Com plete cam shaft rem oval as follow s:
NOTE:
Sprocket
is
If sprocket does not com e o ff ea sily a light blow
on the lo w e r edge o f the sprocket (with a plastic
m allet) should dislodge the sprocket.
6. Install two 5/16" x
holes then rem ove cam shaft (fig. 19V).
CAUTIO N:
A ll cam shaft journals are the same
diam eter and care
must be used in rem oving
cam shaft to avoid damage to bearings.
Installation
NOTE:
W henever a new camshaft is installed
coat
cam shaft
lobes
equivalent.
10 Lu bricate cam shaft journals with engine o il and in­
stall camshaft.
2. Install tim ing chain on cam shaft sprocket. Hold the
sprocket v e rtic a l with the chain hanging down, and
align m arks on cam shaft and crankshaft sprockets.
(R e fe r to fig . 13V and 17V).
3. A lign dowel in cam shaft with dowel in hole in cam ­
shaft
sprocket then install sprocket on camshaft.
D raw the cam shaft sprocket onto camshaft using the

mounting bolts. Torque to specifications.
5. Lu bricate tim in g chain with engine o il.
6. Install fuel pump push rod as outlined in Section 6M.
FRONT (4 0 -6 0 SERIES)

8. Install crankcase front co ver as outlined.
9. Install va lve lifte r s as outlined.
Flywheel
Removal
W ith transm ission and/or clutch housing and clutch
rem oved from engine, rem ove the flyw h eel.
Installation
1. Clean the mating su rfaces o f flyw h eel and crankshaft
to make certain there a re no b u rrs.
2. Install flyw heel on crankshaft and position to align
dowel
hole
o f
crankshaft
(fig. 20V).
NOTE:
On
Autom atic
engines, the flyw h eel must be installed with the
flange c o lla r to tran sm ission side
Coat thread end o f bolts with sea ler then install bolts
and torque to specifications.
Engine Mounts
Engine mounts (fig. 21V) a re the non-adjustable type
and
seldom
req u ire
s e rv ic e .
mounts should be replaced im m ediately, because o f the
added
strain
placed
on
components.
Front M ount Replacement
W ith Small V 8 Engines
1. R em ove distribu tor cap.
2o R em ove
mount
retaining
mounting bracket.
3. R aise front of engine and rem ove m ount-to-engine
bolts and rem ove mount.
CA UTIO N:
R aise engine only enough fo r suf­
ficien t clearan ce.
Check fo r in terferen ce be­
tween re a r o f engine and cowl panel.
4. Replace mount to engine and low er engine into place.
5. Install
retaining
bolt
specification s.
W ith M ark IV V 8 Engine
1. R em ove cotter keys then loosen front mount bolt.
2. R aise engine enough to rem ove weight from cushions.
3. R em ove nut, bolt, spacer and cushions and rein sta ll
with new cushions.
4. L o w e r
engine
and torque
5. Install cotter key.
Rear Mount Replacement
1. Support engine weight to r e lie v e re a r mounts.
2. R em ove mount attaching bolts fro m fra m e ou trigger
and
clutch
housing
cushions.
3. Install new mounting cushions and bolts.
4. L o w er engine onto mounts.
5. Torqu e bolts to sp ecification s then bend lock tabs
to bolt head.
