3. Hand crank the engine until
at the bottom.
4. In stall clutch disc, p re s s u re plate and c o v e r assem ­
b ly and support them with T o o l J-5824.
5. Turn
clutch
assem bly until
c o v e r flange lin es up with " X "
6. In stall attaching bolts and tighten each one a turn at a
tim e to preven t distorting the c o v e r as the spring
p re s s u re is taken up.
7. R em ove clutch p ilot T o o l J-5824.
8. Pack clutch fork b all seat with a sm a ll amount of
high m eltin g point grea se and in stall a new reta in er
in the g ro o v e of the clutch fo rk i f the old reta in er is
worn o r damaged.

In stall re ta in e r with high side up, away
fro m bottom of the b all socket and with open end

The c o il spring single plate clutch is a dry disc type
and no adjustment fo r w ea r is p rovid ed in the clutch
its e lf. An individual adjustment is p rovided fo r locating
each
le v e r
in manufacturing but the adjusting nut is
locked in place and should n ever be disturbed, unless the
clutch is dism antled fo r replacem ent of parts.
When the clutch pedal is d epressed the re le a s e bearing
is
rem oved toward the flyw heel and contacts the inner
ends o f the re le a se
le v e r s , (1) (fig . 18). Each re lea se
le v e r is pivoted on a floating pin which rem ains station­
a r y in the le v e r and r o lls a cro ss a short fla t portion o f
the enlarged hole in the eyebolt (2). The outer end o f each
re le a s e le v e r engages the p ressu re plate lug by means of
a strut (3), which p rovid es k n ife-ed ge contact between the
ou ter end o f the le v e r and the lug. The outer ends o f the
eyeb olts extend through holes in the stamped co ver (4),
and a re fitted with adjusting nuts (5) to c o r r e c tly position
the le v e r s .

lubricant.
9. Replace clutch fo r k b all if rem oved in the clutch
housing and snap clutch fork onto the ball.
10. Lu bricate the re c e s s on the inside of the throwout
bearing c o lla r and coat the throwout fo rk gro o ve with
a sm all amount of graphite grea se (fig . 17).
11. Install throwout b earin g assem bly to the throwout
fork.
12. A ssem b le tran sm ission as outlined in T ran sm ission
Section, and in sta ll flyw h eel underpan.
13. A lign push rod to clutch fo rk and attach return spring
to clutch fork .
