The

Injection R eactor
used on 1970 trucks consists of: the a ir injection pump
(with n ecessary brackets and d riv e attachments), a ir in­
jection tubes (one fo r each cy lin d er), an a ir d iv e rte r
v a lv e ,
check va lves and a ir m anifold assem blies, and
hoses
n ecessary
to
connect
(fig- 3).
C arbu retors and distribu tors fo r engines with A .I.R .
System
a re designed, p a rticu la rly, fo r these engines;
th e re fo re they should not be interchanged with or r e ­
placed by a carbu retor o r distributor designed fo r en­
gines without the A .I.R . System.

The a ir injection pump (fig. 4) with an integral filte r ,
com p resses the a ir and injects it through the a ir mani­
folds, hoses and injection tubes into the exhaust system
in the area o f the exhaust valves. The fre s h a ir helps
burn the unburned portion of the exhaust gases in the
exhaust system , thus m inim izing exhaust contaminations.
The d iv e rte r valve (fig. 5) when trig g e re d by a sharp
in crease in m anifold vacuum, shuts o ff the injected a ir to
the exhaust port a rea s and prevents backfirin g during
this rich er period.
