TRANSMISSION LINKAGE ADJUSTMENT
3-Speed Column Shift (Fig. 1c)
In cases where g ea rsh ift linkage has been disconnected
o r rem oved, p rop er adjustment sequence is important.
1. Install control rods to both second and third sh ifter
le v e r and fir s t and r e v e r s e sh ifter le v e r . Set both
sh ifter le v e r s in neutral position.
2. A lig n both sh ifter tube le v e r s on m ast jacket in the
neutral position. Install gauge in holes o f le v e r s to
hold le v e r s in alignm ent. P osition re la y le v e r s so
that gea rsh ift control le v e r
3. Connect control rods to tube le v e r s
clam ps a re p ro p e rly adjusted so that tube le v e r s and
tran sm ission sh ifter le v e r s rem ain in th eir neutral
positions while tightening.
4. R em ove gauge and m ove s e le c to r le v e r through all
positions to check adjustment and insure o v e r -tr a v e l
in a ll positions.

flyw heel, then w ork clutch discs as needed to slide
arb o r pilot into p ilo t bearing.
4. Install three bolts lo o se ly , then rem o ve alignment
stud and install last bolt loo sely.
5. Th read alignm ent stud in arb or (to act as arb or
handle), make sure discs a re in good alignm ent, then
tighten the c o v er attaching bolts a turn o r two at a
tim e in rotation to prevent distortion.
6. Adjust clutch fin g ers (if co v e r was disassem bled) by
placing a straigh t-edge o v e r the alignm ent arb o r end
and fin g e rs , and adjust fin gers le v e l as shown in
F igu re 20.
7. A fte r adjustment is com pleted, stake the adjusting
nuts to eye bolts to lock the adjustment, then rem ove
a rb o r and install transm ission as outlined in S ec­
tion 7.
8. Adjust clutch pedal linkage as p reviou sly outlined.

If m ast jacket low er dash clamp has
been disturbed at its mounting on dash, its ad­
justment to the steerin g mainshaft should be
checked as outlined in the procedu re in Section
9 o f this manual.

Removal and Installation
1. R em ove tra n s fe r case shift le v e r boot reta in er at­
taching sc rew s and reta in er from com partm ent flo o r.
2. R em ove flo o r co verin g fro m veh icle.
3. R em ove transm ission shift le v e r boot reta in er a t­
taching screw s.
4. Slide boot and reta in er up on shift le v e r and rem ove
the transm ission shift le v e r using T o o l J-8109 as
shown in F igu re 2C.
