• Stationary Rollers - Rollers rotate in fixed position and
work with the dancer rollers to unwind additional film from
the roll after the registration rollers stop.
• Dancer Rollers - Rollers rotate and pivot position to reduce
brake pad pressure, releasing and stopping film movement.
Dancer pivot is controlled by two tension assist springs that
work with the stationary rollers to stage film for the regis-
tration rollers. The last roller of this assembly is spring
loaded to prevent the film from jerking when the film pull
starts.

MPORTANT
ZIPPER MACHINES ONLY!
Some zipper machines are equipped with air cylinders used as
springs on the dancer rollers that are set according to the type of
film used. Air pressure for the cylinder is normally at 30-40 psi.
• Roll Brake Mechanism - prevents an excessive amount of
film from being unwound and maintains tension on the
packaging material; the rising and falling of the dancer roll-
ers gradually removes and applies pressure to the brake.
• Roll Spindle - holds the roll of film or packaging material.
There are two types of spindles, mechanical and pneumatic.
The spindle includes the following:
a. Spindle Tube
b. Roll Locating Collar
c. Core Lock Lobes (pneumatic) or Spreader Blade
(mechanical)
d. Bladder (pneumatic)
e. Brake Drum
• Brake Release Lever - releases the brake pad to allow
removal of the spindle from the unwind.
• Low Film/No Film Detector - senses when the roll of film
is depleted, and after three to four cycles, stops the machine.
• Spindle Safety Lock - security lock to prevent the spindle
from coming off the unwind stand when a film roll is
depleted, and the brake is not applying pressure to the spin-
dle.
