Dusty products dropping through the forming tube create a cloud of
contaminants that can settle onto operating components of the bagger.
The contaminants can cause the machine to jam, damage moving parts,
or interfere with the sealing process. To eliminate the effects of prod-
uct dust, a vacuum pump is attached to the forming tube to draw the
dust cloud away from the effected areas.
Sponge tape provides a surface to absorb the force of the platen strik-
ing the forming tube. This allows for even pressure along the entire
length of the seam seal. The sponge tape is covered with Teflon tape to
ensure a smooth seam seal surface. Teflon tape also insulates the
sponge tape from excessive heat and prevents sticking.

PONGE APE AINTENANCE
The condition of the sponge tape cushion on the front of the tube is
also a factor in seam or back seal pressure. Because hard spots can
cause weak seam seals, the sponge tape must have a consistent firm-
ness from top to bottom.
1. Check for consistency by running a thumb or finger down
the length of the sponge tape.
2. Install new sponge tape as needed.
3. Cover the sponge tape with Teflon
the platen heat.

MPORTANT
Use only one piece of tape that extends from top to bottom.
Seams, joints, and overlapping tape can cause a blemish or a weak
spot on the seam seal.
MECHANICAL TUBE STOP
Located behind the forming tube is a tube stop for preventing the form-
ing tube from moving when the platen strikes. This limits forming tube
travel and prevents bending from the constant platen strikes.
The tube stop must be adjusted so that it is as close to the forming tube
as possible without interfering with film travel. To adjust the tube stop:
1. Remove machine power.
2. Swing the platen out of the way.
3. Loosen the lock nut on the tube stop.
