SEALING METHODS
Resistance and Quali-Seal are the two sealing methods used on end
seal systems. Resistance is used to seal laminated films and oriented
polypropylene. Quali-Seal is a precise, temperature-controlled end
sealing system designed specifically for polyethylene sealing.
Resistance seals are the most common method of creating an end seal
and are identified by wide seals (½" to 1") on the bag. The jaw faces
are constructed from Hastelloy. Each jaw face assembly is adjustable
in the horizontal and vertical direction to ensure positive alignment.

SSEMBLY
The fixed rotated jaw assembly is created by rotating the standard
resistance seal jaw assembly by 90°. The jaws function and are
adjusted in the same manner as the standard jaws.

ESISTANCE
EALING
1.
Set the jaw close FROM value to close the jaws on the
film immediately after the registration rollers and pull
belts stop moving the film.
2.
Set the jaw close TO value to open the jaws as late as pos-
sible while still allowing enough time for the seal to cool
sufficiently.
3.
Determine the temperature required to melt the film.
a. set the jaw temperature at a value that does not form a
seal
b. increase the temperature 10° until the film begins to
fuse
c. continue increasing the temperature 10° until an
acceptable seal is formed
d. allow time for the jaws to reach the set temperature
e. verify the seals are cooled before testing
Time available for cooling depends on the jaw close and empty bag
speed settings in the recipe. These settings may be critical, depending
on the composition and thickness of the film and the weight of the
product.
End seal air (option) is a blast from tubes located either on the bottom
of the stager plates or under the plates covering the terminator boxes
on the front and rear jaw castings. The blast directs air at the seal, cool-
ing it and allowing it to set before the bag has to completely support
the weight of the product.
