Resistance End Seal Adjustments and Procedures

Spring washers, located between the jaw mounting blocks and the jaw
housings, and adjusting screws are used to make alignment adjust-
ments.
• Turn the adjusting screws clockwise or counterclockwise
to expand or compress the spring washers.
• Adjustments can be made to the left and right areas of
both the top and bottom jaws to move them in or out.

1.
Verify the jaws are heated to normal operating tempera-
ture (approximately 260°-320° F).
2.
Trim any film just below the forming tube with scissors so
it does not hand down into the jaw area.
3.
Tape a piece of TIPI paper to the bottom of the forming
tube so the paper hangs into the jaw area.
4.
Disable the registration rollers, pull belts, and the knife
using the operator interface.
5.
Run the machine in empty bags/single cycle mode for one
cycle.
The jaws close on the paper and leave an imprint, showing inadequate
contact areas.

DJUSTMENT
Jaw face pressure adjustment may be required to correct faulty seals or
compensate for varying film gauge thickness. There is some variation
in the procedure depending on the type of drive link; those differences
are identified in the procedure.

MPORTANT
For the most accurate adjustment, perform jaw alignment while
the jaws are hot.
1.
Lock out the electrical and air supply.
2.
Remove the knife.
3.
Clean the jaw surfaces with a brass brush to remove any
film and product residue.
4.
Push the jaws closed.
