VALVE CLEARANCE INSPECTION/
ADJUSTMENT
• Valve clearance inspection and adjustment must be
performed with the engine cold
1. Remove the following:
– Silencer duct (page 5-82)
– Cylinder head cover (page 14-6)
2. Manually turn the crankshaft pulley (1) clockwise,
and align the cutout (2) of the crankshaft pulley with
the index mark (3) of the chain case.
• Do not turn the crankshaft pulley counterclockwise.
3. With the engine in the position described in step 2,
check that the index lines (1) of the intake camshaft
sprocket (2) and exhaust camshaft sprocket (3) are
lined up as shown.
At this position, No.1 piston is at the top dead center
of its compression stroke.
4. With the engine in the position described in step 3,
check the intake and exhaust valve clearances of
No.1 cylinder by inserting a feeler gauge (1)
between the intake and exhaust side rocker arm
adjusting screws and the valve stem ends.

IN:
0.21 – 0.25 mm
EX: 0.28 – 0.32 mm
