2. Using the w i r e insulation as a guide for the
contoured tip of the backprobe adapter, gently slide
the tip into the connector f r o m the w i r e side until it
touches the end of the w i r e t e r m i n a l .
3. If y o u cannot get to the w i r e side of the connector
or the w i r e side is sealed (A), disconnect the
connector and probe the t e r m i n a l s (B) f r o m the
terminal side. Do not force the probe into the
connector.
NOTICE
Do not puncture the insulation on a w i r e .
Punctures can cause poor or intermittent
electrical connections.

PCM Updating and Substitution for Testing
Special Tools Required
Honda interface module (HIM) EQS05A35570
Use this procedure w h e n you have to substitute a
k n o w n - g o o d PCM in a t r o u b l e s h o o t i n g procedure.
Update the PCM only if the PCM does not have the
latest software loaded.
NOTE: Do not turn the ignition switch OFF w h i l e
updating the PCM. If y o u t u r n the ignition switch OFF
before c o m p l e t i o n , the PCM can be d a m a g e d .
How to Update the PCM
NOTE:
• To ensure the latest p r o g r a m is installed, do a PCM
update w h e n e v e r the PCM is substituted or replaced.
• You can not update a PCM w i t h the p r o g r a m it
already has. It will only accept a new p r o g r a m .
• Before y o u update the PCM, make sure the vehicle's
battery is fully charged.
• To prevent PCM damage, do not operate anything
electrical (audio system, brakes, A/C, power w i n d o w s ,
moonroof, door locks, etc.) d u r i n g the update.
• If y o u need to diagnose the Honda interface m o d u l e
(HIM) because the HIM's red ( # 3 ) light came on or
w a s flashing during the update, leave the ignition
switch in the ON (II) position w h e n y o u disconnect the
HIM f r o m the data link connector (DLC). This w i l l
prevent PCM damage.
1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II). Do not start the
engine.
