2.5L 1-4 ENGINE OVERHAUL
ENGINE DISASSEMBLY
N O T E : Connecting rods and c a p s are stamped
with the corresponding cylinder number.

Remove the connecting rod and piston a s s e m -
blies through top of the cylinder bores.
C A U T I O N : Be sure that the connecting rod
bolts do not scratch the crankshaft journals or
cylinder walls. Short pieces of rubber h o s e
slipped over the connecting rod bolts will pro-
vide protection during removal.
Inspect the connecting rod bearings for scoring
and bent alignment tabs. Check the bearings
for normal wear patterns, scoring, grooving, fa-
tigue and pitting. R e p l a c e any bearing that
shows abnormal wear.
Inspect the connecting rod journals for signs of
scoring, nicks and burrs.
