2.5L 1-4 ENGINE OVERHAUL

Tighten the cover bolts (A) to 7 N « m (5 ft-lbs)
torque and (B) to 17.5 Mm (16 ft-ibs).

Apply a light film of engine oil to the seal lip and
the outside edges of the seal.
Install the seal onto tool J-22248 and tap the
seal into place until the tool stops against the
cover.
OIL PAN INSTALLATION (Jeep)
Install the front seal (A) to the timing c a s e
cover.
Install the side rail gaskets (B).
Install the rear seal (C) into the grove of the rear
main bearing cap.
Apply a daub of J e e p / E a g l e Gasket-in-a-Tube
where the side rail gaskets meet the seals.

Ensure all connecting rod nuts, main bearing
cap bolts oil pump mounting bolts and timing
c h a i n t e n s i o n e r b o l t s a r e t o r q u e d to
specifications.
Install the oil pan (D) and rear support strap (E).
Torque the oil pan bolts at positions (F) to 13.6
N-m (11 ft-lbs).
Torque the remaining oil pan bolts to 9.5 N « m (7
ft-lbs).
OIL PAN INSTALLATION
(1988 Eagle - Premier)
C A U T I O N : When installing the oil pan for a Pre-
mier vehicle the back of the oil pan must be
flush with the back of the cylinder block.
Install MOT ML.04 alignment plates to the rear
of the cylinder block at the bottom transmission
housing mounting bolt holes.
