2.5L 1-4 ENGINE OVERHAUL

ENGINE DISASSEMBLY
INTAKE AND EXHAUST MANIFOLD REMOVAL
Loosen the E G R tube mounting bolts (A) at the
exhaust manifold and line nut (B) at the intake
manifold.
Remove the intake and exhaust manifold retain-
ing bolts, nuts and w a s h e r s .
Remove the intake and exhaust manifolds.
Discard the intake manifold gasket.
CYLINDER HEAD COVER REMOVAL
1984-1986
Remove the cylinder head cover retaining nuts.
Detach the cover from cylinder head by break-
ing the R T V sealant with a putty knife or razor
blade.
NOTE: T o avoid damaging the cover do not pry
cover upward until the seal has been complete-
ly broken. Provisions for prying are located on
the valve cover near bolt holes.
1987-1988
For these years the cylinder head covers have a
cured gasket attached to them.
Remove the cover mounting bolts Lift the cover
off.
CYLINDER HEAD REMOVAL
Remove the two cap s c r e w s at each rocker arm
bridge and pivot assembly. Alternately loosen
the cap s c r e w s one turn at a time to avoid dam-
aging the bridge.
