ENGINE DISASSEMBLY
Fill the tester cup with Hydraulic Valve Tappet
T e s t Oil J - 5 2 6 8 until tappet is completely
submerged.
Swing the weighted arm onto the push rod and
pump the tappet plunger up and down to re-
move air. When the air bubbles c e a s e , swing
the weighted arm away and allow the plunger to
rise to normal position.
Adjust the nose of the ram to align pointer with
S E T mark on scale of tester and tighten hex
nut.
Slowly swing weighted arm onto push rod.
Rotate the cup by turning handle at base of the
tester c l o c k w i s e o n e revolution every two
seconds.
Observe the leak-down time interval from the
instant the pointer aligns with the start mark on
the scale until pointer aligns with 0.125 mark.
Normally functioning tappet will require 20 to
110 s e c o n d s to leak-down. Discard tappets
with leak-down time interval not within this
specification.

Block Disassembly
Remove the water pump, fuel pump and distrib-
utor from the cylinder block.
Remove the vibration damper using tool J -
21791.
