Alternator Component Tests

1. Inspection of slip ring surface, 1.

Polish discoloration or scratches on the slip ring

surface with 400# - 600# grit sandpaper.

Replace a badly roughened slip ring or a slip ring

worn down beyond the service limit.

2. Check for continuity between both slip rings. If

there is no continuity, the field coil is defective.

Replace the rotor assembly.
