4. Inspect both the primary and final drive chains in
the following areas:
a. Broken or cracked rollers at 1.
b. Cracked, bent or broken side bars, 2.
c. Looseness or wear between the pins and
side bars at 3.
d. Worn bushings as noted by excessive chain
stretch.
REASSEMBLY
1. Clean all surfaces of old silicone sealer, dirt, oil,
etc., that will require resealing.
2. If the oil requires replacement, older units will
need to have the oil siphoned from the case.
Newer units are now equipped with drain plugs
at the front of the chain case at 1. Thoroughly
clean the inside of the case to remove all debris.
Drive Chain and Sprocket Installation
3. Install the front drive sprocket, positioning the
longer half of the center hub, 1, to the outside of
the chain case.
NOTE: NOTE: The drive sprockets are not centered
on the splined hub. The front sprocket is installed with
the longer half of the center hub, 1, to the outside and
the rear sprocket is installed with the longer half to the
inside of the case.
