– Disconnect electrical plug connection at the fuel pressure con‐
trol valve - N276- Pos. -2-.
– To relieve the fuel pressure in the high pressure accumulator,
start engine for a short time.
– Remove all glow plugs
⇒ "1.2 Removing and installing glow plugs", page 421
– Screw in adapter - V.A.G 1763/8- in place of the respective
glow plug and connect compression tester - V.A.G 1763- .
Note
Use of the compression tester - V.A.G 1763- ⇒ Operating in‐
structions .
– The 2nd mechanic operates the starter until the tester no lon‐
ger indicates a pressure rise.
– Repeat the procedure for each cylinder.

Assembling
Assembling is performed in the reverse order, while paying at‐
tention to the following:
– Install the glow plug for the relevant cylinder

– Interrogating and erasing fault memory of engine control unit
⇒ Vehicle diagnostic tester.
