REAR
1. Relieve the fuel pressure (see page 11-354).
2. Drain the engine coolant (see page 10-6).
3. Remove the water passage (see page 10-9).
4. Remove the quick-connect fitting cover (A), then
disconnect the fuel feed hose (see page 11-361).
5. Remove the t i m i n g belt (see page 6-16).
6. Remove the rear rocker arm assembly (see page
6-42).
7. Remove the rear camshaft pulley.
8. Remove the thrust cover (A), then remove the rear
camshaft (B).
9. Install the rear camshaft in the reverse order of
removal w i t h a new O-ring (C). A p p l y new engine
oil to the camshaft journals and lobes.
10. Remove all of the old liquid gasket f r o m the rocker
shaft holder and cylinder head.
11. A p p l y liquid gasket, P/N 08717-0004, 08718-0001,
08718-0003, or 08718-0009, evenly to the camshaft
holder mating surface of the cylinder head (see
step 8 on page 6-59).
NOTE: Do not install the parts if 4 minutes or more
have elapsed since applying the liquid gasket.
Instead, reapply liquid gasket after r e m o v i n g the
old residue.
12. A p p l y new engine oil to the threads of the camshaft
pulley m o u n t i n g bolt, then install the rear camshaft
pulley (see step 12 on page 6-60).
13. Install the rocker arm assembly, then tighten the
m o u n t i n g bolts (see step 9 on page 6-59).
14. Install the t i m i n g belt (see page 6-19).
15. Adjust the valve clearance (see page 6-10).
16. Connect the fuel feed hose (see page 11-361), then
install the quick-connect fitting cover.
17. Fill the radiator w i t h engine coolant and bleed the
air out (see step 8 on page 10-7).
18. Inspect for fuel leaks. T u r n the ignition switch
ON (II) (do not operate the starter) so the fuel p u m p
runs for about 2 seconds and pressurizes the fuel
line. Repeat this operation t w o or three times, then
check for fuel leakage at any point in the fuel line.
19. Do the crankshaft position (CKP) pattern clear/CKP
pattern learn procedure (see page 11-4).
