Chapter 1 Install the Cisco ONS 15310-MA SDH
The intra-building ports of the ONS 15310-MA SDH are suitable only for connecting to intrabuilding
Warning
or unexposed wiring or cabling. The intra-building ports of ONS 15310-MA SDH must not be
metallically connected to interfaces that connect to the outside plant (OSP) or its wiring. These
interfaces require isolation from the exposed OSP cabling. The addition of primary protectors do not
provide adequate protection when the interfaces are connected metallically to the OSP wiring.

You will need the following tools and equipment to install and test the ONS 15310-MA SDH.

A 1-inch (minimum) wide copper braid is required to ground the ONS 15310-MA SDH OSP cabinet
and is recommended for indoor installations.

Alarm Out cable, shielded cable terminated with a DB-25 connector
Craft port serial cable, CAT-5 terminated with RJ-45
BITS timing port cable, CAT-3/CAT-5 terminated with DB-9 connector
