Required Tools and Equipment
For information about the various types of cables used in the ONS 15310-MA SDH, refer to "Cisco ONS
15310-MA SDH Shelf Assembly Hardware" chapter, "Cable Description and Installation" section in the
Cisco ONS 15310-MA SDH Reference Manual.
Always use the supplied ESD wristband when working with a powered ONS 15310-MA SDH. For

Caution Do not install an electrical card in an ONS 15310-MA SDH if the ambient temperature exceeds 149
degrees F (65 degrees C).
If protective clips are installed on the backplane connectors of the cards, remove the clips before

installing the cards.
Install an electrical card (E1_21_E3_DS3_3 or E1_63_E3_DS3_3) in a traffic card slot:
Step 1
Open the card ejector.

Use the ejector at the top of the card and firmly slide the card along the guide rails until the card

plugs into the receptacle at the back of the slot.
Verify that the card is inserted correctly and close the ejector on the card.

Verify the electrical card LED activity:
Step 2
All LEDs (FAIL, ACT/STBY, E1 SF, DS3 SF) turn on for 5 seconds, then turn off.
a.
The green ACT/STBY and red FAIL LED turn on for 15 seconds.
b.
c. The red FAIL LED flashes for 10 seconds, then becomes steady red for 30 seconds.
d. While the red FAIL LED is on, the ACT/STBY LED turns green for three seconds, then turns amber.
During this time, the E1 SF and DS3 SF LEDs are amber.
e. All LEDs turn off.
f. The ACT/STBY LED turns green (active) or amber (standby).
Step 3 When you log into CTC, verify that the card appears properly in CTC node view.
Step 4 As necessary, continue with the
