In node view, click the Maintenance > Protection tabs.
Step 1
In the Protection Groups area, select the protection group that you want to switch.
Step 2
In the Selected Group area, select the card and port that you want to switch.
Step 3
Click Manual or Force.
Step 4
If you choose a Manual switch, the command will switch traffic only if the path has an error rate less
than the signal degrade (SD) bit error rate (BER) threshold. A Force switch will switch traffic even if the
path has SD or signal fail (SF) conditions; however a Force switch will not override an SF on a 1+1
protection channel. A Force switch has a higher priority than a Manual switch.
In the confirmation dialog box, click Yes.
Step 5
Return to your originating procedure (NTP).
Step 6
78-19416-01
If the normal timing reference is invalid or has failed, a warning dialog appears. Click OK; the NE
remains on the previous timing reference without performing the switch.
If the normal timing reference is an acceptable valid reference, the NE reverts to the normal timing
reference as defined by the system configuration.
This procedure initiates a Manual or Force switch on an optical port.
