PROCESS OVERVIEW: 802.1Q VLAN CONFIGURATION
Use the following steps as a guide to configure VLANs on the device (refer to the associated section
in parentheses):
1. Review existing VLANs
2. Create and name VLANs
3. Assign port VLAN IDs and ingress filtering
4. Configure VLAN Egress
5. Create a secure management VLAN
6. Enable / Disable GVRP (GARP VLAN Registration Protocol)
Preparing for VLAN Configuration
A little forethought and planning is essential to a good VLAN implementation. Before attempting
to configure a single device for VLAN operation, consider the following:
How many VLANs will be required?
What stations will belong to them?
What ports are connected to those stations?
What ports will be configured as GVRP-aware ports?
It is also helpful to sketch out a diagram of your VLAN strategy.
