4.2 LITER (258 CID) SIX-CYLINDER ENGINE

TIMING CHAIN REMOVAL
NOTE: Installation of the timing chain with the
timing marks on the crankshaft and camshaft
sprockets properly aligned ensures correct
valve timing. A worn or stretched timing chain
will adversely affect valve timing. If the timing
chain deflects more than 12.7mm (1/2-in)
replace it. The correct timing chain has 48 pins.
A chain with more than 48 pins will cause
excessive slack.
Remove the drive belt(s).
Remove the engine fan and hub (or Tempatrol
fan) assembly.
Remove the vibration damper pulley (V-belt
drive only).
Remove the vibration damper. Refer to the
removal procedure.

Remove the timing case cover. Refer to the
removal procedure.

Remove the oil seal from the timing case cover.
Remove the camshaft sprocket retaining bolt
and washer.
