HYDRAULIC BRAKE
TROUBLESHOOTING
Brake lever / pedal soft o r spongy
• Air in hydraulic system
• Leaking hydraulic system
• Contaminated brake pad/disc
• Worn caliper piston seal
• Worn master cylinder piston cups
• Worn brake pad/disc
• Contaminated caliper
• Caliper not sliding properly
• Low brake fluid level
• Clogged fluid passage
• Warped/deformed brake disc
• Sticking/worn caliper piston
• Sticking/worn master cylinder piston
• Contaminated master cylinder
• Bent brake lever/pedal
Above items are normal but the brake system still has poor performance, check for nose dive d uring braking. If the nose
dive is excessive, check for secon dary master cylinder hydraulic system.
Brake lever/pedal hard
• Clogged/restricted brake system
• Sticking/worn caliper piston
• Caliper not sliding properly
• Clogged/restricted fluid passage
• Worn caliper piston seal
• Sticking/worn master cylinder piston
• Bent brake lever/pedal
Brake d rags
• Contaminated brake pad/d isc
• Misaligned wheel
• Clogged/restricted brake hose joint
• Warped/ deformed brake disc
• Caliper not sliding properly
• Clogged/restricted brake hydraulic system
• Sticking/worn caliper piston
• Clogged master cylinder port
Rear wheel locks when o nly the brake lever is applied/Front wheel locks when o nly the brake pedal is applied (in the case
that all items are normal i n "Poor lever/ pedal brake performance")
• Improper secondary master cylinder push rod installed length
• Faulty proportional control valve
