FUEL SYSTEM (Programmed Fuel Injection)
VARIABLE AIR INTAKE CONTROL
VALVE
INSPECTION
Su pport the motorcycle on its center stand with the
r -- - -- - - - - - -- -- - -- -
t ransmission is in neutral.
Open and support the fuel tank using the equipped
tools (page 3-5).
Disconnect the neutral switch connector from the
switch.
Start the engine.
Check the operation of the variable air intake port.
With the engine speed above 5,500 rpm, the vari-
able air intake port is open.
W ith the engine speed below 5,000 rpm, the vari-
able air intake port is closed.
If the operation of the variable air intake port is
incorrect, inspect the fo llowing:
- Diaphragm da mage
- Vacuum hose leakage
- Loose or poor contact on the vacu um hose
- Bypass control solenoid valve (page 5-85)

- Loose or poor cont act on the bypass control
solenoid valve connector

- Open or short circuit between the bypass control
solenoid valve and the ECM
- One-way valve and/or vacuum chamber damage

BYPASS CONTROL SOLENOID VALVE
Removal/In st allatio n
Remove t he air cleaner housing (page 5-60).
Disconnect t he vacuum hoses f rom t he bypass con-
trol so lenoid valve.
Remove the screw and bypass control solenoid
valve from the air cleaner housing.
