CRANKSHAFT / PISTON/CYLINDER
Tighten the bearing cap nuts alternately 2 or 3
steps, then tighten them to the specified torque.
TORQUE: 33 N·m (3.4 kgf·m, 25 lbf·ft)
Assemble t he crankcase ha lves (page 11 -13).

Do not rorate the
crankshaft during
inspection.

Do not interchange the bearing inserts. They must
be installed in their original locations or the correct
bearing oil clearance may not be obtained, resulting
in engine damage.
Remove the crankshaft (page 12-4).
BEARING INSPECTION
Inspect the main journal bearing inserts on the
upper and lower crankcase for unusual wear or
peeling.
Check the bearing tabs for damage.
OIL CLEARANCE INSPECTION
Clean off any oil f rom the bearing inserts and main
journa ls.
Install the crankshaft onto the upper crankcase.
Put a strip of plastigauge lengthwise on each main
journal avoiding the oil hole.
