SERVICE INFORMATION
GENERAL
ELECTRIC STARTER/ STARTER CLUTCH
• Always turn the ignit ion switch OFF before servicing the starter motor. The motor could suddenly start, causing serious
injury.
• When checking the starter syste m, always fo llow the steps in the troubleshooting f low chart (page 19-4).
• A weak battery may be unable to turn t he st arter motor quickly enough, or supply adequat e ignition current.
• If the cu rrent is kept flowing through the st arter motor to turn it whi le the eng ine is not crankin g over, the starter motor
may be damaged.
