Keyboard
Polling
4.36
For proper
operation
of the console
a visually
impaired
atten-
dant must
be aware
of the status
of the keyboard.
For example,
he/she
must
know
whether
the BELL OFF or NIGHT 1 button
has been
enabled.
To do this the attendant
presses
the LAMP TEST button
in the
silent
mode (the ringer
is off, the 7-segment
indicators
are on and the
LEDs are off). While
this button
is held depressed,
the remaining
rel-
evant
buttons
are pressed
in turn.
If the LED associated
with
a button
is lit, the ringer
will sound
as long as the
button
is pressed
down.
If
the LED is flashing,
the ringer
will give a 0.5 second
on, 0.5 second
off
audible
signal.
In this manner
the status
of the BELL OFF, NIGHT 1 or
any button
(including
an incoming
call) can be determined
and appro-
priate
action
taken.
When
this operation
takes
place, the
LAMP TEST
button
is the last to be released;
otherwise
the current
button
being
polled
will become
active when
the LAMP TEST is released
first.
